How do I know if this is right for me?

Welcome to the FAQs! This is by far one of the most frequently asked questions so we want to address it right off the bat.

While the effectiveness (in whatever sense that means to you) of therapy or consultation depends on a number of factors, we at ROO believe that the most important one is your relationship with the practitioner—the vibe, the alliance, because it all comes down to trust and this is not a one-size-fits-all type of thing.

We invite you to think about whether you have a preference in the practitioner’s age, gender, intersectional location, lived experiences, and specific skills and style. If not, what are you looking to explore? What qualities in a person/relationship make you feel comfortable?

You are never stuck in a relationship. Be selective with who you work with because ultimately these offerings are for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer therapy online?

Yes, our therapy and consultation services are delivered virtually at the moment, using encrypted video platform Doxy.me (HIPAA, PIPEDA & GDPR compliant).

Which type of therapy do you offer?

Our approach to therapy is trauma-informed and eclectic, combining neuro-narrative, attachment-based, somatic, and relational. When it feels appropriate, we would suggest EMDR and clinical hypnosis. Our work is rooted in intersectional feminist and anti-capitalist values.

You can learn more about each approach here.

What does a typical session look like?

Hiu has a direct and question-driven therapeutic style: she conducts sessions by centering curiosity (you are the expert of your experience) while aiming to make the most therapeutic impact in any single session. The first session starts with informed consent and the limits of confidentiality in therapy, then dives into what brings you to the room.

What payment methods do you accept?

E-transfer, bank transfer (using Wise — so direct transfer within Wise is also accepted), and credit card (with a 3% service charge).

What’s your cancellation policy?

Our cancellation policy works hand-in-hand with our payment policy: We ask that our clients secure their appointments by sending payment 48 hours in advance. For cancellation or rescheduling, we have a 48-hour cancellation policy that helps us manage our and your time:

  • If you cancel in less than 48 hours, 50% of the session fee will be refunded / owed.

  • If there is a cancellation with less than 24 hours notice or a no-show, the full session fee is non-refundable / owed.

What do I do if I’m in a crisis?

We are not crisis responders (crisis = active suicidal ideation, active addictions, complex trauma, or situations that are costing you safety or making your safety unmanageable).

If you need crisis support, we advise that you first get in touch with the people you love and trust; be with them in person, if you can. Additionally, we recommend these support resources.
